"American Right to Life" Action put out a press release yesterday condemning, among other thing, the support National Right to Life has given to Mitt Romney in his presidential bid. What planet are they on? What support was that? Did it help him when they endorsed Fred Thompson? Or maybe when a couple of their state organizations endorsed Mike Huckabee...surely that's what must have helped Mitt's campaign along?
Maybe they're just hoping that if they say something that people will think it's true. Between that and the creepy anti-Romney ad they produced, I'm not sure how anyone can take them seriously.

Dear LIITNB: Thanks for noticing American RTL's "Right To Life Leaders Battle Over Romney" press release. You blogged that we were wrong to state that Nat'l RTL supports Romney. We'll show you that we are correct on this. At American RTL we are very careful with facts when we criticize a pro-life leader or organization, because the very nature of such action generates scrutiny. We ask the same courtesy, that if you criticize us, you first check the facts. You could have started by reading our press release (it answers your misunderstanding), or you could have called James Bopp's firm, or you could have called and asked Nat'l RTL directly. You wrote as though you assumed that we didn't know, or were trying to hide, that NRTL had endorsed Thompson. But of course, our press release itself states that NRTL is officially endorsing Fred Thompson. I'll excerpt our release here, and then a report from a Bopp campaign stop in Michigan:

And here is an excerpt from a Jan. 12, 2008 report of a Bopp campaign stop in Flint Michigan written by Judy Zabik, longtime treasurer for a number of Michigan pro-life organizations, to the Thomas More Law Center, American Life League, the Keyes Campaign, Michigan Citizens for Life, and American RTL.
Report Excerpt: "Just wanted to fill you in on the 'Mitt Romney' campaign stop Jim Bopp made in Flint today [Jan. 12, 2008]. There were about twenty of us there, all pro-life leaders or activists in the community. Jim Bopp droned on about how he was totally convinced that Romney was a pro-life convert, that he got the blessings of NRLC to openly endorse Romney, and that he was the pro-life advisor to Romney. Bopp then said he'd support Giuliani if he ended up being the nominee…"
LIITNB, you ended with, "I'm not sure how anyone can take them seriously." Perhaps gradually people will, as they notice that American RTL is careful with principles, strategy, research and facts.
